Yes it is dumbass. If I fire you I can deny your unemployment compensation application. As a business owner I sign off on any unemployment compensation since I’m the one paying into it. Not the employee.

I can choose to not deny but the choice is mine-the employer.

You can try deny it but, unless there was something egregious involved, they will get paid unemployment. You will make your case on the hearing call and a week later you will get notice that they were paid.
