Polio vaccine says hello.

They started working on the polio vaccine in the 1930’s and didn’t have an effective vaccine until 1953

"They" were not many. In fact, "they" were few. "They" weren't thousands. "They" didn't have the resources, education or technology of today. But, even without all of that, ONE MAN, Jonas Salk, created the vaccine in 2.5 years. Can you imagine how fast he could have done it with today's technology.....probably, oh I don't know, maybe months??? Massive resources have been thrown at these vaccines. Salk would have been impressed. Endless money, endless resources, endless man power.

To compare the 1930-1950's with today's medical advances is laughable.

Yeah, I think you’re correct. My mother must be referring to the IPV developed in 1953 and administered in 1954. She contracted it right before they came out with it. Regardless, we have to agree there’s been great strides made in the medical field in the last 20 years.

Not sure about final versions of these 2 particular vaccines (mRNA versions but mRNA was also worked on before this), but a lot of initial work on a vaccine was restarting the work on Coronavirus vaccines (SARS & MERS) that the 2 prior administrations stopped funding.
