Oklahoma City
Indianapolis
Tulsa
Shreveport
Montgomery

Oklahoma City and Indy are perfectly nice towns. I've spent time in both and appreciate them. But they are bland and don't really have an identity.

Indy is probably the best/safest city north of the Mason-Dixon. Has a little bit of everything and they have a couple of suburbs that are regularly in the top 50 places to live in the US.
