Dortmund announced they’ve parted ways w Lucian Favre today.
I was a little surprised, but guess they haven’t been very good w/o Haaland to say the least.

They definitely suffer without Haaland’s directness. There’s way too much fricking around. I don’t know how many times I saw Marco Reus run onto a vertical ball in the final third then turn towards the sideline yesterday.
I doubt he’s gone for that though. They take way too many unnecessary chances in their defensive third. Favre looked like a straight up Paco Jemez/Zeman level ideologue yesterday. There’s no purpose to 90% of it. They’re just trying to string cute passes together in dangerous positions so that they can slowly advance the ball. It’s cool if you’re playing suicidally with a Yugo budget, but it’s going to get you into trouble at a team with title aspirations.
Didn’t help that he waited way too late to make wholesale personnel changes after going 4-1 down.
I’ll miss it, because it was great to watch as a neutral.

They have no direct backup for Haaland. I’m not sure if that’s on Favre or not. But that said they were tactically outclassed by Stuttgart yesterday. Matarazzo is really flying under the radar and seems to be an excellent coach.

The only other striker they have on the roster is Moukoko, and I’m not even sure that’s where he’ll end up, so you’ve got to think it’s on Favre
Their closest approximation is probably pushing Hummels forward, which Favre has done in the past, but that’s obviously only a desperation move

If only old Deadspin were around to tell us why Dortmund really let him go

I did love his 'rotate your wing backs and also play them in midfield' philosophy.

I wonder if Jesse Marsch will get a look...

I’ve seen some speculation that Dortmund is targeting Marco Rose from Gladbach.
