Opting out.

Regards Gilbert, I cannot help but think of the miserable days I spent in Korea and Vietnam. An enemy trying to kill me, seeing friends die, yet I had no option to "opt out." Maybe if someone had told me, "Hey, if you are tired of this shite, you can go home." Of course I had no option such as that. But, I volunteered to be where I was. Gilbert volunteered to play college ball and he made a commitment. I also made a commitment to my fellow soldiers and country. But, the truth is, the young man only knows what he knows. When he looks at himself in the mirror...will he like what he sees or just rationalize it away? We make our own prisons by our decisions in life.
