All said, what made the original Star Wars so entertaining is how simple it was. Fast paced, good vs evil, easy to follow flashy eye catching space gadgets & pure munching fun.
But LOTR and Tolkien's Middle Earth is so full of history and intricate backstory , it stands above Star Wars.
It's not just better, it's FAR better.

It probably needed to be as long as Return of the King, and there are some fantastic fan edits that make it such. They’re basically perfect. The only part you’d be confused about is why Smaug is covered in molten gold when he busts out of the Lonely Mountain. I highly encourage you to find one, since if that edit was the film it would have also been nominated for Best Picture.
