You're right...so why aren't we letting them decide?

But I thought we shouldn't make decisions that might impact someone else's life.
Now you've got an elderly loved one that is in need of care at home with family that can't provide that care, would spend a fortune trying to pay for that care, or would be forced to stay home from work to provide that care.
There is no getting around that preventing visitors from seeing the elderly in a nursing home is cruel.

If we thought we could get home health to show up regularly & on time we would have pulled my Grandpa out when this started
There is a reason why nursing homes are JBE’s 2nd largest donor

Bill that gives elderly 'a critical choice' to live at home or in a nursing home rejected by Senate committee

With a 6-2 vote, the Senate Health and Welfare committee rejected legislation aimed at giving more people access to home-health services, in lieu of being sent to a nursing home to live.

Louisiana’s nursing homes are among the worst in the nation, according to national rankings. Louisiana also spends less on home- and community-based services than most other states. At the same time, nursing homes have unique financial protections that ensure regular rate increases, while other Medicaid providers have been cut year after year.
There would be plenty of families that would have their loved ones at home if they could
