I don't know the size of our master closet but I wish it was bigger.

Our house is older, and we did some renovations about 7-8 years ago. Ditched the den and made it a master bath/closet. The entire room was roughly 12x14. I split it down the middle. We have a 7x12 space that has the dual sink vanity, and a clawfoot tub. Then I split the remaining piece down the middle. One of the 3.5x7 spaces has the toilet and shower. The other is the wife's closet. And she fills up every inch of it. Of course we still have 12 feet of closet space in the bedroom. Half of it is my clothes and shoes, with double sliding doors in front of it. The other half is our T-shirts, coats, and other things that we both use, with double sliding doors there as well.
I don't think you'll regret going bigger. The walk-in closet is fine for her nice clothes and we put in a closet system that has shoe cubbies at the bottom, with a drawer and shelves above it. Double hanging space on one side, and single rod for longer things like dresses on the other. She also put another shoe rack beneath that side.
