Its much more convenient to have it all on your chest than your back.

I use both. I generally hunt all day so I bring a little something for lunch, a half gallon of water and need a place to put clothes as it warms up so all that goes in the backpack. Chest rig holds the stuff I use through the day like binos, phone and compass or GPS. I like it a lot.
