Should we have gotten Addai instead of Bush in the 06 Draft?

It's something that I wonder about. Had we wanted to get Addai instead of Bush in the '06 Draft, I'm sure we would have found a way to trade down to get Addai, while gaining some significant compensation for giving up our #2 pick (like more draft picks).
Does anybody here think we'd be better of had we gotten Addai? Is there anyone here that thinks we are better off with Bush instead of Addai?
As for myself, I'm not sure. I think Addai was a safer bet as a pure RB to replace Deuce (who we knew wouldn't last forever).
But at the same time, Bush was good for business with all the hype he brings, I'm sure more people spend money on the Saints (tickets, licensed sports gear, Bush jerseys, etc) because of Bush than they would have had we gotten Addai. Also, even though (IMO at least) Bush wasn't as safe as a bet as Addai as a pure RB, Bush brings a lot more to the table than just being a pure RB... Bush is also a legit threat as a kick returner and dangerous receiver... and it is still conceivable that Bush could develop into a Brian Westbrook type (but like I said, it was more of a safe bet that Addai would be a great pure RB to have, than it was to expect Bush to be like Brian Westbrook, IMO).

Anybody who has the audacity to say that they would have rather drafted Addai over Bush is flat out lying. When he fell to the Saints it was like 10,000 christmases.

The Texans apparently tried to trade out of the #1 spot but could not find any takers. I think the Saints had the same problem, but they wanted Bush.

Looks like the Texans may get the last laugh on that one.

Maybe. Two years does not a career make.

Shouldn't we have taken Tom Brady is his draft, or maybe TO in his, or maybe Asante Samuel in his. Give me a f'in break.

Actually, I thought Jones-Drew was the most exciting RB prospect in the 2006 Draft, not Addai or Bush. But yes, I do have to admit that I didn't feel that RB was a pressing need for the Saints in the 2006 Draft, being that we had a healthy McAllister at the time (and if McAllister hadn't injured his other knee last year, I doubt I'd be looking back at the 2006 Draft wishing we had gotten a RB).

Addai benefits from the presence of one of the best QB's of all time - Peyton Manning.
Saints and Colts offense is totally different. I can assure you, most defenses are not keying on the Colts running game which allows Addai to be more successful.

again, with the hindsight!

I actually thought Jones-Drew was the best RB to get in the NFL Draft at the time. But if it makes you feel better, I thought Rocket Ismail and Randy Moss were the best WRs to get in their respective drafts. Sure, Moss turned out to be great, but Rocket Ismail never made it to a Pro-Bowl.

he would do no better.its o-line also! not just reggie.an play calling we have to admit payton makes some dumb arse play calling too
look it early lets give him until regular season .i just hope he doesn't get hurt.PT didn't show me anything either!
stinchcomb stink's .IMO nicks may bump him out,an we can trade stnkcomb an get some picks back

Nothing makes me feel better about an un-provable statement like that.
How about this, I knew before the draft that Colston would have a Pro-Bowl level rookie campaign.
This is fun.

drew brees is not exactly drew bledsoe

and yet, both are very effective
and somehow addai is a much better RB than bush

the colts running game sets up their passing game

i'm not a sucker of reggie's balls in any way, but i do believe that his presence on the field alone makes him worth the number 2 pick. Defenses have to play with one eye on him at all times just because they know what he CAN do. Bush can play 58 minutes, have 2 touches, and be a major contributor to the offenses success. Addai does not have that effect.
