The idea for the trip came from my 10yo. She is very much into history and has been begging to go to Mt Rushmore and DC.
I’ve heard that rooms open up in the park as people cancel reservations so you might be able to get one. I think I got our room in YS in June for an August trip but the selection was limited.
Be sure and check the road closures in YS. I have read that the road on the east side from the canyon area to Lamar Valley will be closed next year. That may limit your ability to get around efficiently.
