Young power forward to play alongside Rudy Gay. Will the Hawks get the check book out?

this is absolutely huge. i would not be surprised to see the hawks match the offer and try for a sign and trade. if the hawks resign smith, they know they will lose him next year when he bolts as an unrestricted free agent.

i'm still amazed smith is listed at the 4
lowry/conley
mayo/crit
gay/warrick
smith/arthur
darko/gasol
one thing's for sure...they can get out and run with a lot of guys on teh court who can handle the ball

did the grizzlies try to sign him for 1 year or something? if the hawks match, they match the entire contract

Damn talk about a youth movement. Pretty impressive group of young talent.

Hawks will match this offer. They either want to resign smith or sign and trade.

That would be a nice, young lineup.

NO way Hawks don't match. Why you think they let childress walk...or should i say swim.

In another development, the Griz have identified Iranian center Hamed Ehadadi as a person of interest and hope to sign the 7-2, 23-year-old next week.
why is everyone from he middle east a person of interest?

4? I'm thinking 5 like the other writer said.

I almost think that the Hawks may not match it. Smith is frustrated with how the Hawks have handled his contract negotiations, so why would you want someone who is mad at your team there for 4-5 years? I'm not saying that they won't for sure, but to me, I'm leaning that they may not just because of how long it has been and he still didn't have a good enough offer from them

I'm thinking 5, and if so, the Hawks have to match. But then I've read they'd been holding steady at around 9 per, so who knows.

basically the three outcomes:
1. hawks match- problem here is that 58 for 5 is a lot more than the 45 for 5 they originally offered him
2. hawks decline- not very likely considering the hawks would not let their star player walk for nothing
3. grizz pull offer- based on all three agreeing and the hawks and grizz work out a sign and trade
