Why not?
Unless you have an attorney who specializes in self-defense use of a firearm, such as the OP it would seem, it's very likely that the instructor knows as much or more about specific laws and cases than your family attorney.

Not true.
You're going to have to give some details when you call 911. You should briefly explain what happened, clearly identify yourself as the victim, and ask for law enforcement and an ambulance. Then, tell them you've left the immediate area for your safety (you did do that, right?) and where police officers can find you. Then, hang up and wait for police to arrive.
That's when you tell them you're prepared to fully cooperate with them, but you want your attorney present before giving any statements.
