It seems like most of y'all refuse to realize such a confrontation is all going to occur in the space of about 10 feet or less over a very short period of time. You're not going to be shooting at guys from the distance of a target at the gun range.
Which is why I usually try to set my targets at 20-25 feet at the pistol range. My thinking is that if I can get a nice, tight center mass grouping at that range, I should be fine closer in...even with a moving target coming at me. I will be bringing him down.

There's a good chance that a DA might argue that if you had time to call 911 before using deadly force then your life wasn't really in imminent danger and you could've retreated. Depends on your state laws and the circumstances obviously.
Situations that result in deadly shootings aren't going to go by "the plan" anyway.

It won't.
Hopefully, no dumbass has to get himself killed, just so you can find out how wrong you are.

If you've ever been in a fight (as an adult) or mugged, multiply that by about 1,000 and add weapons, to think you're walking home, as if your Sunday walk was rudely interrupted, or giving clear-headed statements to a district attorney while your ears are ringing & bleeding, are a little unrealistic.
Some of them aren't even waiting for police or EMT. They're going home and having a sammich.

You're right. I hope you aren't killed by police because you think you can do whatever you want after shooting someone.

I’m pretty sure here in Louisiana, any nighttime home invasion is considered justification to believe your life to be in imminent danger. I could be wrong.

Yep, and practicing with shots firing with one hand close in to your body, because the reality is you may be in a situation where you need your off hand to fend off and/or block. Obviously such a shot would be at a few feet.

Would definitely depend. If you're in a state with Castle Doctrine or something similar, you're more than likely good.
It'd be completely reasonable to call 911 for a break in, and have the outcome be a self-defense shooting. It honestly would likely work in your favor, showing that you weren't necessarily set on taking matters into your own hands, but were forced to when they confronted you.

Offhand shooting as well. I always try to get off a few rounds with my left hand. Never know what the deal may be with my right.

Good info. This is the exact information given during any concealed carry class.

And this is my line of thinking. That dispatcher and the scene can back up everything I tell the cops.

Where will the police know where to find you to give you that medal though? Clearly you aren't thinking this through.

Depends on the local DA. The wrong one will always find a way to charge you. Beating such a case will cost at least mid six figures.

The sad thing it shouldn’t have to come to that...too many damn 2A hating liberals sitting in DA chairs...

Who keeps an attorney on standby?

I hate this conclusion that I am having about you. That you believe in the infallibility of government control, and that there should be no resistance. Pretty frickin weak. You can't even think outside of the box in a hypothetical situation, without getting your panties wadded up. Get fricking help, you are under the thumb.

Right now, it’s Hillar Moore. No worries should it happen.

In that case, you were always going to be charged. That DA thinks you should've dove through your sliding glass door to get away, and probably have left your family behind while you were at it.

I have in the past, but have gotten out of the habit. But you are absolutely correct.
Here is an issue - what to do with the firearm after. Obviously situation dependent. If you are in your home you may be able to leave it on the table.
But, if you are in downtown Portland you certainly are not going to be setting it on the ground waiting for the LEOs.
Do you tell dispatch, "please tell officers that my firearm is secured in my holster and I will turn it over when they arrive?"
Or, just be prepared to raise your arms and tell the first officer on the scene?
Kinda worrisome because who knows how dispatch is going to translate the message.

I don't really care what conclusions you come to about me. I'm hoping you're intelligent enough not to leave a crime scene after you've shot someone and that you won't actually shoot a police officer for disarming you, which will happen one way or another.

It isn't about government control. It's about knowing how these situations go. I can't exactly defend my Second Amendment rights and my family if I'm shot dead so I can keep my Glock. I'll turn it over, which is insanely common, and grab another from the safe.
Being ignorant to reality is a weakness, whether you're blind to that or not.

Give me a fricking break dude.
You're throwing a tantrum because you're tough guy bullshite got called out.
Be a man, and admit you said something stupid. You deserved to be called out repeatedly for what you said, and that's exactly what happened.
