Yeah I don't see the point of the screens and superfluous shite, but one bit of tech that I do want to see in appliances is more self-monitoring (temps, noise, vibration, efficiency, etc). It would be great to have a "like-new" baseline, and then be notified when something is out of spec. Even if it still works, I'd like to get some sort of early warning rather than wait until total failure.

yeah i agree but the problem is most people don't think like us and the companies who make money repairing them don't want to lose that control and the production companies don't want people to know how unreliable aspects of their products are
