I almost exclusively use penn battle 2/3 reels for my inshore fishing, I cant kill em. They have seals rotor bearings and all other bearings are corrosion resistant as. The line lay is not always perfect, but ives never had a reel break, seize up, have drag get stuck, or reel rough. The parts are cheap and easy to come by and easy to self maintain. I love my shimano slx dc for baitcasting and my penn conflict 2 is a light all round good spinning reel for artificials.
The battles are cheap enough new, and even cheaper used that I don't really worry about wearing them out. I add oil occasionally and regrease them when I need to.
Shimano and diawa seem to be slightly smoother in the same price point, but their parts in my experience, with shimano, are more expensive.
