I had to go through a couple of Rokus due to buffering and overheating issues, each time I went with a different model.
The one that finally worked for me (and still does) is the Ultra.
As to your fiber issue, getting only 1/3 of your contracted speed is completely unacceptable. You should be getting at least 850-900. Considering you're getting only 200-300 down from your 1G service (while wired to the router) there are really only two things you can do.
1. Make sure your router's firmware is up-to-date. Just because you bought it off the shelf yesterday doesn't mean the firmware is current.
2. Call ATT and make sure they come by at a time when you can be there. Have their tech test from inside the house to show speeds.
If you happen to be able to lay hands on another router to test, do that before calling ATT because if it works fine then you know you just need to replace your router. If not, then that gives you a bit more ammo to prove it's on their end (ie: "I've tested this with two different routers").
