So I turned on the radio this afternoon to ESPN radio. At the time, a local sports radio show on 105.5 FM was saying that a writer for the Times-Picayune (his name starts with a V, don't remeber full name) had inside sources about the QB position. He said that the staff had already chosen Hatch to be the starter against App. State. Take is for what it's worth.

Personally, I would be surprised if the staff already had a clear cut favorite. I thought at least they would have taken into consideration the play of both QB's in the firt three games. Seems like it would be unfair to Lee and a lost opportunity to better judge who the better QB is right now.

What would be the benefit of that?

While see what you're saying here, I don't want the starter's 1st complete game to be at Auburn. They need to give one the majority of the reps those 1st 3 games. Practice is for tryouts, the games need to be for development.

I think most people believe that Hatch will be the starter.

This is incorrect. No starter has been determined for the ASU game.

Just repeating what I heard. Personally, i did not believe this stuff either. I thought the position was still up for grabs. Just wanted to know if there was any truth to this. I kinda thought Lee and Hatch were tied right now.

FWIW, I think Hatch will start against App. State.

Hatch will start if for no other reason than Les plays players that are older. It doesn't matter who starts any game. All three are going to play the entire season and whoever fits whatever play is being called is who will be out there.

It's probably the same guy they had on CFL last week, they were talking about that and the LSU beat writer said that right now it's Hatch's job, but it's a 3 man competition that could still be changed, my guess is that these practices will thoroughly decide it one way or another.

And if you want my inside sources tell me, it is this...

JJ will be ahead of JL on the depth chart in week 1.

I'm cool with either one, really! I believe both quarterbacks are more than capable of stepping up to lead this team. Especially, with the great offensive line, backfield, and wide receivers.

From the video I've seen on TSD, Hatch is clearly the better QB, but that isnt saying much.

JJ will be playing a lot this season.

Those stupid radio hosts completely overexagerated this article. They made it sound like Hatch was the guy, right now, no questions asked. Although...they have been known to be biased towards Bama.

quote:

Offensive coordinator Gary Crowton said both throw the deep ball well, meaning LSU's experienced receiving corps will remain a scoring threat.

"Any quarterback can get it to me deep. We just have to put the time and the work into it and go over it in practice," senior wide receiver Demetrius Byrd said.

According to this, both Lee and Hatch can throw the deep ball accurately. I was under the impression that the deep ball was Lee's specialty and was better than Hatch at that. But ,if they can throw it deep enough for Bryd, that's good enough for me.

The fact that the coaching staff has already decided on the starting QB for our first game means nothing; they will both play the same amount, I bet.

The first game will determine who starts the second game and who gets the most playing time.

The final test will be their first game performances, with an open eye until our SEC opener. Then we will know our true starter at QB.
