The original movie is also one of my all time favorites. I watched the two episodes of D+ and while it’s okay, like others said, it feels rushed. I wanted to see more about the actual history of the development of NASA, know more about the men that started the program and their selection process for the Mercury 7.

I guess it just feels more soap opera than History. Through 2 episodes all we know is that Alan Shepard enjoyed fast cars, fast women and drinking. John Glenn was a Boy Scout. The rest are just background characters. Shallow. So far the show has been shallow.

I watched the first two episodes yesterday, and what I got out of it was they were basically making The Right Stuff as Mad Men. They even have Aaron Staton (Ken Cosgrove of Mad Men) as Wally Schirra, and Patrick Fischler (Jimmy Barrett on Mad Men) as Bob Gilruth.

And they are making Alan Shepard as Don Draper 2, with his drinking, smoking, womanizing, and aloof/maverick/self-centered attitude. Problem is, while I can believe this guy as a Don Draper clone:

I'm not buying him as this dorky guy in real life:

Yeah I'm aware that Alan Shepard in real life WAS a philanderer, but you know he probably got nothing better than OT 5's looking like that.
