Because that’s the story of Mike Leach’s career. He looks like he’s coaching the patriots one weekend and the bad news bears the next. Trying to figure Leach or his team out is not a battle you’re going to win, and using his team as a way to figure out whether we’re good or not is pointless

The fact that LSU actually gave film on Leach, really helps. I’m going to chalk that miss state game up as fluke for the defense giving everything that was going on

Leach's offenses have put up a lot of points and yards on a lot of good teams over the years. Occasionally he'll catch a good team off guard and beat them, but he never seems to win games that matter late in the season. Washington vs Washington St. is the biggest game of the year for both teams and Chris Petersen owned Mike Leach every year they played.
Most coaches that have been around for a while run a variation of the same plays every year but looks and other variables are constantly changed. Analyzing player tendencies also goes into to film studies as well. Being able to recognize those things on the field when it's in front of you isn't always easy for some young players to do right away and i think a lot of the new guys on defense struggled with that a bit
