If the heating element is gone (doesn't heat up) it can also be replaced. They make an inexpensive tool (wrench) for that.
It'll be ok as long you don't see the heater sitting in rusty water. Which would mean the bottom is rusted out. Enjoy saving the hundred(s) with an 's' as water heater's have gotten quite pricey.

I turned the gas off at the same time I shut the inflow off.
Went to HD and picked up a new relief valve...plan is to drain it in the morning and replace it before the wife wants a hot shower! Lol
Watched a YouTube video and definitely doesn’t seem too bad. I just hope that’s the issue and this will resolve it!
