Will Petersen be red shirted or will he become a mainstay in the lineup?

It's looking more like PP will start. Les in a recent interview indicated that there would be freshmen starting or at least getting a lot of playing time this year.

Hoping that the weak links are erased before season begins.

JJ has really been coming along apparently
He has all the tools, he was just very raw coming in. That said, incredible talent. Dual Threat guy with great size and strength.
It would be hard to mold a better QB for Crowton's system.

What weak links?

He will probably be a starter by the time conference play comes around. If not, he will certainly be the third corner and if his run support is good enough, may play some nickel.
I mean this in all seriousness, he is the Michael Clayton of cornerback recruits. He is big, strong, fast, and will probably be a freshman all-american.

Did he mean DeAngelo Benton, not Peterson?
Posted on 8/4/08 at 9:46 pm to Tiger_n_ATL
No, he meant DeAngelo Peterson. I have heard good things about him thourghout the spring and summer.

Both Petersons were referenced in the article. However, I think that expectations are higher for the DB Peterson than the WR Peterson, at least as a true freshman. I think that's who the earlier poster meant.

JJ has def. got a cannon for an arm

I've said on numerous posts regarding JJ that I don't think he sees the playing field this year and that he is headed for a red shirt year.True he has a cannon for an arm but I saw him twice last year and feel he is very raw and will need time to develop.

I don't know which games you saw, but I watched him play in 3 games last year and I disagree. You may well be right that he'll get a Red Shirt, but it'll be due to the fact that Hatch, or Lee, answered the bell; it won't be because Jefferson is "raw".
What I saw last year was a guy who was: poised in the pocket, took his time looking at all receivers, made the long and short passes on a highly consistent basis, and had the ability to tuck and run when he had to. He was a man among boys...just that simple.
Whether, or not, that translates into success at the next level, I don't know; I guess we're about to find out.

I saw him play and I completely disagree with this. I was very impressed with JJ. I also have a hard time with a guy winning state in a tough division being "raw" when you look at his mechanics, cannon, decision making, etc. Dude is a stud. Would like to see him red-shirt but don't think it will happen. We'll see.

This quote from the article should answer your question:
"By now, everyone knows Peterson changed his name over the summer from Patrick Johnson to Peterson. But it doesn’t matter what name is on the back of his jersey, from first glance, it is clear why he was the No. 1 rated cornerback in the nation last season.
Peterson went through DB drills under the watchful eye of defensive coordinator Doug Mallory. Running alongside newcomers Ryan St. Julien, Derrick Bryant and Brandon Taylor, Peterson looked like a seasoned college upperclassmen among freshmen."

I think DeAngelo Peterson could be another stud in this class.
Insane ability and great size. NFL prospect.

I don't think PP redshirts and from what most say here, he will likely only stay three years barring injuries.
Why do people keep saying this. He's a drop back type QB like JR. Hatch is more of a runner than JJ is.

Stop looking for things that aren't there. Miles even said he was impressed with JJ's running ability and decisions on when to run. I heard it from his mouth only this morning. Not only that, I saw him play two complete games. The guy can run it when he needs to.
