How much more is the recoil of a .308 vs. the 6.5 CM?
Understand that a lot more goes into felt recoil than just the caliber. A study/heavy .308 will have damn near the same felt recoil as a light 6.5. Obviously if you are toting the gun through the mountains on a elk hunt you don't want a 9lb rifle, but shooting from a box stand, a heavier gun would likely do well for him.
I made the mistake of getting a 7mm08 Vanguard Compact model for an 11 year old thinking that the recoil would be more manageable than my full sized Vanguard in .308. That wasn't the case. So now I'm looking at putting a Bell and Carlson stock on the compact model to try to take out some of the recoil.
