20 years previous they lost two or more generations of men to the meat grinder. before that they conquered everyone they fricked with until waterloo. before that they helped us gain independence.
any fight would have been a total slaughter, even if they had a shot at a stalemate(they didnt), another generation or more of men would be totally lost to war. it's an understandable thing to decide not to do that, and they DID fight at first, but once they were overrun, it wasn't worth the blood it would take to STILL LOSE but ...prouder?
"foreign" takes on different connotations in "notUSA" since the borders of Europe have shifted so much throughout history. the 30,000 foot view of the 2nd world War includes the first, and everything that led up to it.
not just 'merica coming in to kick the wermacht in the teeth after it was shot in the leg.
