This is it right here.
One side wants to continue “evolving”. This can apply to human nature (gender, race, etc.) or society in general (globalism, one nation state, etc.).
The other side wants to stay stagnant because there is nothing to “fix” or “evolve” because society has never been better off than it currently is in terms of lifespan, wealth, and freedom.

I wouldn’t use stagnant, it has a negative connotation. A stagnant pool of water.
Human nature doesn’t change. And that’s the crux of it for me. That’s why the liberals vision for America is a fools errand.
