If USC & Oklahoma go undefeated, are we this year's Auburn?

With Ohio State, USC, and Oklahoma all being above LSU in the polls to start the year, I thought I'd ask the question. What if the winner of Ohio State-USC game goes undefeated ... Oklahoma goes undefeated ... and LSU goes undefeated (I know we won't, but just for arguments sake play along and assume we do).

Are the defending champions on the outside looking in on the national championship game?

I hate the fact that the team that finished the previous season #1 doesn't automatically start the next season #1. Unfortunately in the current setup of college football, it is very important to start the season ranked as high as possible in the polls ... last year was case-in-point for LSU. If we don't start the season #2, I don't think we would've made the NCG.

Of course this could all be eliminated if they do like the BCS and Harris polls and don't release the first poll until a coule weeks into the season ... but what would be the fun in that? I love polls and preseason rankings.

Thoughts>?

ETA - Here is a more plausable scenario mentioned by someone else. What if Ohio State-USC winner goes undefeated, Oklahoma goes undefeated, and LSU as the SEC champion has one loss to Florida on the road. Does LSU get in?

There's no way they keep out an SEC team. With all the media hype behind the SEC, they wouldn't do it. USC or OSU would be in, but WV would be left out. Besides, WVu's strength of schedule would have them getting jumped by LSU.

i think given the last two years performance, should an SEC team go undefeated-- they will get in.

two of those teams lack a Conf Champ game.

In that scenario and given what Ohio State has done the last two years, does Ohio State get left out in favor of an LSU-West Virginia or LSU-Oklahoma NCG?

I am telling you now. OSU will be playing Oklahoma in the title game while a one loss LSU game gets the shaft.

Forgot about Oklahoma ... I changed West Virginia and Oklahoma ... Okl has more national "clout" and I think it makes this scenario a little spicier given that we've crushed both OU and Ohio State in national championship game.

Ok ok, I know what some of you are thinking ... we didn't crush OU ... it was only 21-14, but what'd they have? like 50 yards of total offense?

No. Too many OSU homers out there in the media that will and already have started to hype their team. Plus, the B10 is a much harder conference than the Big East.
That's the way it should be at least. Teams should be punished for playing in an inferior conference and others should be rewarded for playing in a tough conference.

If Tosu beats USC and go undefeated they are not going to be left out in favor of West Virginia (what big win would West Virginia have?) likewise an undefeated SEC team won't be left out; unless the East Coast media gets sentimental for the Big East.

tOSU at USC...I suppose one team has to win.

Our low rank is just because of questions. If we answer those questions by going undefeated despite playing UF and UGA, they'll jump us over OU.

No.

At the end of the day the "Big Least" stigma would kill them.

After the last 2 years an SEC with the same number of losses will get in

I think if OSU goes undefeated they're almost gauranteed to go to the NCG, but if it were between a 1 loss OSU and 1 loss LSU, then it would be very likely LSU would go.

Our OOC schedule would kill us this time. I'm not a believer in having to have a tough OOC, but the situation you are presenting would be another anomaly.

SEC hype aside, there is no way LSU would get back in. If OSU or USC goes undefeated they are an auto in. If OU goes undefeated, playing Cincinnati and Washington trumps LSU's OOC wins.

Someone mentioned WV, this would be a closer race than the OU undefeated, and it would most likely come down to both team's performance against AU.
