Because the death toll might skyrocket to ONE THIRD OF ONE PERCENT OF THE POPULATION! (Let's not even bother with the fact that dying WITH COVID and dying FROM COVID are two totally different things).

I forgot to remind folks that we have 4X as many deaths annually due to automobile accidents, and if anyone suggested shutting down the country to the tune of 15M unemployed and $6 Trillion in deficit spending in an attempt to avoid that.
Every time you get in a car, you take a calculated risk, and not enjoying that convenience isn't worth forgoing the risk.
