You don't see the issue here? The cop's lives aren't in danger at that point...regardless of what he is "suspected" of doing prior to their arrival. Remember, he's innocent, just as you are, until proven guilty in a court of law. If he turns around and has a weapon, then all bets are off.

So by your logic, with the example provided, the police should not shoot and stop him from leaving.

This disregards the safety of the general public.

You don’t seem to understand that the officer’s safety is not the only issue in these cases.
