Burger Chef was a fast food chain that died out (as far as I know) in Louisiana in the late 1970’s/early 1980’s. It was a lot like the old school McDonald’s but they gave a toy away with a meal years before McDonald’s did. The last one I know of around where I grew up was in Hammond near SLU.

You are correct sir. The was one on Plank Road and I worked there every chance that I got while going to LSU.
They would run .19 cent burgers on special and they had a damn good Root Beer Float.
