Stock markets looked great
Markets and GDP do not do a good job of representing what life looks like for the average American. 45% of Americans do not own any stocks, and of those that do, the top 1% owns 50% of them. Markets have become detached from our true economy since companies hauled so many jobs overseas. All of the profits from increases in productivity and efficiency of corporations have gone to the top 1%. Meanwhile for the average Joe, wages have been stagnant, costs of living and college tuition have skyrocketed.
No, America was already sick before the pandemic. The virus and subsequent shutdowns exposed & exacerbated the festering issues we have going on.
