Still not a fan of them not naming a separate tournament champion for the guy who shoot the lowest score for the tournament. They could have addressed the confusion with this new format to determine the Tour Champion but still named a tournament champion based only on this tournament. Oh well, still much easier to follow down the stretch.

I think I like Thomas. He's finished 3rd, T7, and 2nd the past 3 years at East Lake. I believe DJ finished about last in the field last year. Rahm has hovered in the middle of the pack most years there. Actually, he's shot almost the same score the past three years, finishing -4, -4, and -7.

Didn't they use to do it that way? I think it was just too confusing for the normal fans

Yes, they did it that way until last year. In 2018, Tiger won the tournament but Justin Rose won the FedEx Cup. Like I get what they're doing and why, but I still liked the player with the lowest score in the 4 rounds to get recognized as winning the tournament. I just think they could have accomplished their goal of making the scoring less confusing while still having potentially two, separate winners for the tournament and FedEx Cup.

Tony Finau is going to shoot the lowest score this weekend and not win the championship

quote:yes but the confusing part for both the fans and the players was that it involved math while you're playing.

They've removed the math aspect, so what this guy is saying is that now that the confusion is out the window they should recognize this week's actual lowest score.
The reason that'll be a problem is the same reason why they don't recognize Sunday's low score during a tournament. Because, your approach to this week is based on where you start.

How the heck is Leishman in this after the dogshit golf he played in the first two playoff events?

It's just an unnecessary format IMO. I understand some may disagree but I don't really find it too confusing now that they're eliminated the weird math involved with FedEx cup points from the equation, which is confusing to everyone who doesn't have a TV network doing the math for them in real time. I just personally don't like the idea of crowning someone winner of a tournament when all the players in the field don't start on equal footing. I will just always be of the opinion that the tournament champion and FedEx Cup Champion should be two, separate things. I don't think it creates a problem if they simply made the cup standing more straightforward like they did using strokes instead of points. Now everyone would know how many strokes they need for both, not try to figure out how many points they need. They could even put both scores on the scoreboards around the course and the ones they carry around with each group.

Leishman won an event this year and was pretty good pre-covid. Same with Cam Smith who won the Sony

Those numbers are WITHOUT strokes added. So everyone is starting at E.
Webb Simpson is 9/1 WITH strokes so anyone under him would be double digits. Rory is 25/1 along with Xander, Bryson and Berger.

Wait, so are my odds for this tourney? Maybe i just don't understand the strokes differences. Are those four the FedEx cup?
Posted on 9/3/20 at 10:30 pm to Chucktown_Badger
Yours are including the net. Not solely for this tourney. If so, there’d be no way Rory would have 9/1 odds.
