But why in the hell should lsu fans be "happy for" a player that leaves the team high and dry 4 weeks before kickoff?
because of dumbass fans. had stupid NFL owners not paid these guys what they do they would stay in school for 4 years. just because they make billions does not mean they have to pay guys millions. these dumbass fans would be happy if we went to 1 and done like basketball so we would never have any continuity or chemistry. college football is in deep shite if we start having a bunch leave after 2 years like chase.

I'm not happy for him at all. It's sad that a kid with that much talent doesn't really like playing the game. If he enjoyed football, then he would be doing whatever he could to play. Instead it's just a means to make money. If I was a NFL team, I would be more concerned about the fact he doesn't really like playing football than his talent at playing football. At that level, it will really show especially after the first year's shine has worn off and he got that guaranteed money.
You either enjoy the game or you don't. It's a shame that people with the most talent usually don't care about the game near as much as those that just want to play. But such is life.
The only player who I could semi understand being scared of Covid is Shelvin for obvious reasons. Everyone else using it as an excuse is really just hiding behind it to either take a year off or make a political statement or are brainwashed morons.

This strategy of sitting out games to avoid injury leading up to the draft has really accelerated the past several years. It started with Fournette, McAffery, and others sitting out bowl games, which was unheard of at that point in time. Now, it has become almost expected for non-playoff teams. Then, you had Bosa sitting out the entire season when he could have come back and played after a month or so after an early season injury. Now, we have guys, albeit in unprecedented circumstances, opting out of entire seasons. I do wonder the effect this will have moving forward and whether highly rated guys entering their junior seasons will simply sit if they feel comfortable with their ranking. It doesn't help that agents are willing to front them money while they train, something colleges can't do. But I wholly agree with you that this could be trouble for CFB if this becomes a more normal thing. I guess we'll see once things get back to normal post-COVID
