I read a lot. I mean a lot. Then after awhile, I thought I would challenge myself and try to write a novel. It took 5 years to write, then 5 years to get it published. I've released 4 more in the last 5 years.

It gets easier. You have to discipline yourself to do it every day, like exercise. Pick a time. Force yourself to write something every day, even if it's crap. You can go back later and edit out the crap.

At least I hope I've edited out the crap.

That is kind of where i am. I've always read a good bit but have been getting through like 30 - 40 books a year, taking some notes on stuff i did and didn't like, interesting ideas, etc.

Did you set yourself some hourly / weekly hours to write? Word counts? I've written a few very short things, not even like a short story but just some scenes and then an outline kind of thing for plot, characters. Having trouble figuring out how to start and dialogue but its starting to feel slightly more comfortable. I've never written any fiction before only random technical reports and analysis type stuff.
