Easy solution for this: pay them 40k a year, they MUST be enrolled and pay for their own tuition and room/board @ LSU. Add fees (because there are more and more every year) for medical care and training staff, tutors and all the other perks that they get beyond what a non-athlete student gets. Once all that is paid for by the athlete out of his salary from the school, whatever he has left will be his to keep. Now, if they take taxes out, there may not even be enough to cover everything they need to pay for but then they are being "paid to play". I guess if they are really good and produce (aka starters) they get a raise. I would bet that the student-athletes at LSU get way more than 40k per year in housing, room/board and perks but that should be a good starting number.
