In practice, the Dems have a huge bench issue because so many of their candidates are single-issue candidates or represent hard blue states.
I think the big issue is the general public can’t stand the Dem old guard like Pelosi. But they refuse to step aside.
I know “The Squad” isn’t popular here but half of their appeal is that they rebel against the old guard. As long as Pelosi and company keep power it’s going to be hard for the Dems to build enthusiasm. Everyone knows she and her pals (Biden included) are huge hypocrites that let money guide their “morals”

Agreed.
The “old guard” is pretty ossified in states with total blue control like California, New York, Massachusetts, etc, which has kept a lot of politicians who normally would have moved up from doing so.
No one could move up from the House to the Senate in Massachusetts for about 20+ years because Teddy Kennedy and Kerry had a death grip on those seats. Same with Boxer and Feinstein in California.
The result is that you have a huge bubble of Dems who are high in age, few who are middle aged, then you get idiots like AOC winning the seats as they come available.
Eventually those seats are going to turn over and when it happens, the kind of candidates they get are going to frick things for ones in purple and red states like your Heath Schuler types.
