We're off the OP topic here but..
Nah I would still recommend he at least goes for walks or gets some moderate aerobic exercise like that. There are far too many benefits to exercise aside from just weight loss.

Unfortunately the "smart" devices for fitness are all scattered technologies and unless you buy all into one particular brand's ecosystem, you really won't get an easy smart solution. The best you can usually do is use MyFitnessPal and have it sync to all of your stuff and use MFP as your central hub.
I STRONGLY recommend that you do not eat back exercise calories, in fact don't even look at exercise calories as anything remotely accurate. Just exercise because of the benefits to your physical and mental health, not specifically to lose weight.
