Federalizing state guard units is a thing: see the last 20 years of never-ending middle east war.
As an interesting aside, the way fedgov has usurped state militia guard is fascinating in and of itself.
I feel like states should have an entirely different set of militia that cannot be "federalized", but, we know how that would go over....

I believe that is exactly right. Same scenario at Ole Miss for same reason as well I think.
