Am I the only one who thought the movie was just okay?

Personally, I knew going in I would probably think it was overrated (as I wasn't a huge fan of the first one). Coming out of the movie, I was correct on my initial judgment.

I also thought that Ledgers performance was probably being over-hyped due to his passing. This is were I was wrong. Ledger played the role very well. He should definitely be in contention for an oscar for his part.
Without Ledger, I don't think I really would have enjoyed this movie much at all.

So, did you find this movie to be all it was hyped up to be?

i thought it was a great movie, but it definitely doesn't live up to the level of hype that it's been getting. it's #1 on the IMDB top movies list now...

"why so bad taste in movies?"

I think the following people also didn't care for it:
menstruating women, old people with glaucoma, gays, democrats, people with burn scars on half their face.

Not saying it was a bad movie, I just didn't think it was as spectacular as everyone made it out to be. It was a tad long and I definitely could have done without Bale's deep, monotone voice throughout the entire movie.

I definitely wouldn't say it was just okay. I liked it a lot and it was a very good action packed movie with a great performance by Ledger, even though it ran a little long.

But I agree with you that it is being very overhyped by a lot of people.

And anyone who says that Ledger's passing isn't affecting the level of praise the movie is receiving isn't being realistic IMO.

id argue anyone that says it does is just looking for an angle to justify their extreme minority opinion.

Every female I know who went to see the movie did so because of Ledger.

Not because he's in it, but because of his death.
Had he not passed on, this movie wouldn't have been as big as it is.
Batman Begins brought in $48,745,440 it's opening weekend.
What appeal brought in so many extra viewers this time around?

Actually, I'm not in the minority. Like the vast majority of people who have seen this movie I think it was great and Ledger's performance is Oscar worthy.

I just disagree with the much smaller but very vocal fanboy sect that claims this pretty straightforward action flick is somehow one of the best movies ever.

1. because nobody knew what to expect from begins. most people probably went in expecting it to be no better than the last batman series, and left ready to see the 2nd one immediately. i know i did.

2. because begins was not marketed NEARLY as much or as effectively as the dark knight was/is.

Did you really think that Christopher Nolan would come up with a series even remotely similar to Joel Schumacher's?

You mean plastering Ledger's name and face all over the previews and posters? And besides a HUGE amount of "marketing" for TDK came free for the studio by way of mags like US Weekly, People, etc. touting Ledger's performance because the public was already interested in it.

I remember Begins being one of the most hyped and anticipated movies of that summer. Could be wrong, I guess, but it seems like anything with Batman in the title would get a pretty damn good marketing push.

I still want to get my hands on one of those "Why so Serious?" Posters.
To whoever designed that poster...

It had an impact no doubt, but the fact Begins was so good had lots of people anticipating this movie before Ledger OD'ed. There was lots of buzz when the released a teaser trailer with just dialogue and a crumbling bat logo.

Begins went on to gross over $200M. TDK would have been huge anyway. What did the first POTC make its opening weekend compared to the 2nd and 3rd?

I agree the movie still would have been big. I'm simply stating that a whole extra crop of viewers came in to view the movie simply because of Ledger.

Exactly, when I first saw previews for Begins I wanted to see it because it looked like it gave the backstory. But it was much better than I thought, it was, is easily the best comic book movie by far and since the clearly set up a sequel at the end, I couldn't wait for the new one.

They actually scaled a lot that back after he died. The started with the "Why so serious" posters around Nov of last year, but took they out after he died.

It came out the same year as Revenge of the Sith, so it may have been overshadowed a bit, but they spent a ton of money making it, so they had to market it pretty big.

i had no idea who directed the movie before i went to see it, and im sure the vast majority of the american public would say the same. i went to see begins that summer because i was just extremely bored one day that summer and had nothing else to do.

no, i mean like leaking trailers and pictures out on the internet back in like october, or whenever the first trailers came out.

and the posters and trailers had the joker on them before ledger died. the joker was the focus of this movie, of course his face is going to be everywhere. it was like that BEFORE ledger died.

i remember not even knowing there was a new batman movie was coming out until i saw show listings for it in the paper one day.
