Travolta’s career was on life support when pulp fiction came out. Pulp fiction revived it.

He wasn’t a box office draw.

Would not have mattered who was in Pulp Fiction. Was all about QT.

Forrest Gump was also released in 1994, as was The Lion King. It was a big year for Hollywood. Shawshank is the type of movie that needs a big Oscar buzz to draw a crowd, but it was simply overshadowed by other films.
