I think Russell’s 2006 game vs Tennessee encapsulates his career very well.

He threw three touchdowns. This included a throw over the middle to Buster Davis that was an absolute laser and only a handful of QBs ever could make. Another TD was the game winner to Doucet after a last minute drive.

He also threw 3 interceptions. One was returned for a touchdown and the turnovers in general are why the game came down to a last minute drive. That game ending touchdown to Doucet was “intercepted” by Doucet and was intended for Bowe.

JR was a better QB than Flynn in college and a generational talent. He was also inconsistent and could put team in positions that required heroics. I think he could have been an even better college QB than he was with a better scheme and approach that suited his game.
