Never played a Far Cry game before. Do they all connect, or are they standalone entries in the same world? If I'm going to play this, should I watch a YouTube recap of the previous entries?

They are standalone. But it doesn’t release for 8 months. Do yourself a favor and play FarCry 3, 4, and 5 in the months leading up to it. You will get a feel for the style and get you more excited for FarCry 6.

Far Cry 3 is still the best

I enjoy Far Cry but the Ubisoft formula has gotten a bit stale. Unless they have really brought something new to the table gameplay wise I would just wait for the new game or maybe give 3 or 5 a shot. I think if I tried to play all 3 back to back I would get bored about half way through 4.

With respect, I do not recommend playing any of FC3, 4 or 5 just before FC6. Burnout will happen. Looking back, that’s why I didn’t initially like FC5. I had just beat FC4 and if you’re a bit of an OCD player, it’s exhausting. The design of the world lends itself to being grind-y af, even though it’s still fun. It’s like eating an expensive big meal at a fancy restaurant; it loses its appeal if you do it every day.
Maybe play one and give yourself six months before playing another, at least.

Hell yeah, I can't wait any longer, but since we're talking about Far R and do you by any chance know if there are complementary materials such as comics online or something similar that expands the story?
