Can't answer for that one but I have eaten Marlin. It is about like sword fish. That size fish is almost impossible to revive and release in warm water. People do it everyday but a sizeable number of those fish don't make it. If it is caught on light tackle it most likely wasn't going to make it...and at 800 pounds all tackle is light.
I have eaten Tarpon also in the Caribbean and Central America...it is not good LOL. The thing is though when you are Panga fishing and staying with locals you do what they do or your experience is going to be far different than it will be otherwise.
