Just pick a war and you can find there were lunatics screaming about the "end of days" even then. They rant and rave during peace time, too. This, too, shall pass, and you will be herded into the start of the next era of human history wondering, "where is my Rapture?" That is, of course, provided you survive the coming times instead of self-fulfilling the visions of nonsense that help you sleep at night.
