"Why Dale"? It'sbeen stated here, numerous by different ranters. Dale holds grudges above & beyond the norm & he is vindictive as hell. Remember when he & Knight started going at each other? Dale came out with this jewel: "I'd like to fight Bobby Knight naked in a cage & may the best man walk out". He called the NCAA, in Sports Illustrated, then a national magazine, "Gestapo Bastards". He reportedly told Smoke, back when Skip & he were just starting to build their dynasty, pure jealousy-induced :"remember I have a black book on all your recruiting violations" . This is just an older version Of Dale. His reasons are not hard to figure out. Bahnsen obviously has someone taking care of him. He & Dale were / are extremely close.

But what is the motivation for Dale to attack Wade? Could just be a power thing, could be personal beef, could be Bahnsen feeding some “this is good for the program” bullshite. None of it would surprise me.

It's probably related to Joe Alleva's comments on Wade. "Got some bad recommendations on that guy."

My guess is Dale had a different recommendation for coach. Probably a lot like he did with Johnny Jones.

It wasn't only in the SI article where he called the NCAA Gestapo Bastards, he did it often in many interviews. I even heard him compare them to Josef Mengele. For those who know who Josef Mengele is and what the Gestapo was about nothing could be more irresponsible and pettily dramatic.
