John Hughes really made the most of John Candy's talents, and saw not only the comedic skills but the emotion he could convey. Both Planes, Trains, and Automobiles and Uncle Buck's last scenes stopped on stills of Candy's face. Both capsulized perfectly the more emotional scenes that had just occurred.
(sorry to sound all movie critic here, but I always loved those scenes...)
