I searched and didn’t see Koe mentioned much on here, but he’s got a new album coming out and I’m really liking the sound. He’s definitely drawing more toward a southern rock sound than traditional Texas country, but I honestly appreciate his irreverence toward anything.

He probably most well known for February 28th, 2016, a song about finding a sober ride to Taco Bell after he got a DUI.

Anyway, his two new songs Kuntry & Wistern and Sundy or Mundy are great listens.

Sundy or Mundy

Kuntry & Wistern

Any other Koe fans out there?

I am a big fan but it’s because I know him personally and saw him at Bostocks like 10 times in Stephenville in front of a crowd of like 20 people.

It’s insane how big he is now.

My favorite music of his is still the early stuff, his EP that’s only available on iTunes is great as well as the ‘Out on Parole’ album.

Bet those were fun times, he’s pretty damn wild. Haven’t had the chance to see him live yet.

I'm a fan, his music grew on me over time. I hated Austin the first time I heard it. I think these songs, as well as his last album, have more of a 90s alternative feel than southern rock.

I hated February 28 2016 for the longest. Still not my favorite.

I have to say, there are very few artists that I enjoy their musical progression over time, but I’ve liked Koe’s so far. Some of them get away from why I liked them in the first place and turn to garbage.

his songwriting is super immature and is geared towards girls with x's on their hands

That is Cody Johnson.

Koe does not give a frick about anything or anyone’s opinion. He makes his music for himself and you can see that in regards to his progression. He was very Texas country when he started out and he’s shifted to essentially southern rock.

This will not be everyone’s cup of tea, but he has a very unique sound and style that nobody else has. There are imitators coming up that are gaining traction as well (Giovanni and the shores Guns, Kolby Cooper, etc).

I’ve just started listening to him and have gotten the same vibes as well. Need to listen to more of his stuff but like what I have listened to so far.

Fair enough. . .. post something good.

Because he sounds like he might have something good (and it just wasn't one of those two).

Yeah, I'm wondering if he has anything, where he doesn't use profanity as a writing crutch. I'd give it a listen.

"February 28, 2016"

Throw that bottle of whiskey
Under the seat
Light a cigarette
So he don't smell the weed
If he asks me to blow
I'ma tell his punk arse
To take me to jail
I've been here time and time before
Rocky Mountains Midway
With every whore
In a 25 mile circumference
Of this damned ole town

Singin' la-la-la let's pull over
I can't hold it
Will you turn the music up?
And let's play critter critter
Who is sober enough
To take me to Taco Bell?

Last night was crazy and
There ain't a dent in my truck
So we're golden Lord
We wanna thank you again
For watchin' over us
When all we do is sin
Let's go to Mr. J's buy another case
Pack of cigarettes and be on our way
Back to the boneyard
Oh dear Lord

Singin' la-la-la let's pull over
I can't hold it
Will you turn the music up?
And let's play critter critter
Who is sober enough
To take me to Taco Bell?

Singin' la-la-la let's pull over
I can't hold it
Will you turn the music up?
And let's play critter critter
Who is sober enough
To take me to, to take me to
La-la-la-la let's pull over
I can't hold it
Will you turn the music up?
And let's play critter-critter
Who is sober enough
To take me to Taco Bell?
Singin' who is sober
Who is sober?
Enough to take me to Taco Bell

(I need a taco)
(I'm drunk for some tacos)
(Will somebody take me)
(To Taco Bell?)

one of his most popular songs. it's just a lot of really immature songwriting/lyrics. there isn't much substance in them.

Keepin it real yo! Yeah, it's real alright and everybody lived through it and most outgrew it, if they were smart enough. Sure as hell doesn't seem worth writing, or getting nostalgic about.

Austin

I like him. He can put off a d-bag vibe and I’m sure his shows are full of drunk baw frats but I’d still go see him live.

Listen to ‘Teardrops in a glass’, ‘I-30’, every song on the EP.

He also cusses pretty much zero on the EP and ‘Out on Parole’ albums.

still not hearing any kind of traditional country sounds from him. he's always been a rock guy with a twang. which is fine. I just think his songs are written towards a much younger demographic and appeal to the "whoo hoo" crowd with their michelob ultra's with x's on their hands. while wearing their nicest fishing shirt

ETA: koe actually has a good voice. his lyrics are juvenile to me though. whoever his management is has him playing to backing tracks and i'm not a big fan of that either.

I’ll agree with this.

Also agree. It’s definitely aimed towards high school and college kids. Ive never met anyone older than me that likes his stuff, but most of my friends (I’m 30 tomorrow) enjoy his stuff because he started gaining traction towards the end of our times in college.

For this who haven’t seen him live, I highly recommend it if you can get a ticket. I haven’t seen him in 2-3 years and the last time was at LJT. He sells out every show he’s had in DFW since then and it’s been a hard ticket to get.
