Those were pretty cool back in the 80's. They had alot of off the wall stuff.

Internet said this:

Night Flight Plus is a video-on-demand service offering original episodes of the 1980s USA Network TV show Night Flight. In addition to archived episodes of the show, the service features films in the music documentary, concert, horror and cult genres.[1] The channel is currently available on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast and online at their website. The site launched with subscriptions offered at $4.99 a month and $39.99 a year.[2] Describing the launch of the channel, Stuart Shapiro told The A.V. Club, “Our goal with Night Flight PLUS is to resurrect the editorial spirit of Night Flight with the same original curatorial edge we had in the ’80s for a new digital generation.”[3]

I had the Roku channel for a few months. It was great, but they didn't add much as time went on. But they had some great episodes of Night Flight, cult movies, and cult documentaries.
I'd recommend that you get the channel when you have time to watch it, then cancel when you're done.
They also rerun episodes on IFC. They have some episodes online.

To most DVD, Blu Ray, 4k are synonymous.

Dvd, br-d and other canned methods are still viable. This is especially true for people that live beyond the reach of broadband.
Also a lot of stuff will never be on streaming.
In the 21st the lack of broadband is really pathetic.

And since purchasing cloud media isn't the "permanent" option we were led to believe, having a physical digital library isn't a terrible idea.

you can have a physical digital library on an SSD or HD. you don't need to be pigeon-holed into hanging on to a giant stack of plastic disks unless you're that geico caveman.
the 'not available online' comment is dumb. you can find far more stuff online than you can digging through the junk dvd bin at walmart or what amazon deems is 'politically correct' to allow you to purchase from their store.
having said all that, i came of age to night flight and radio 1990. i remember that's the first place i saw 'the fabulous stains' which was not only incredible but played on the tv in its full uncensored diane-lane-nude glory
this boy had the the sound on VERY VERY LOW into the wee hours out of fear his parents were going to wake up and nothing says busted like the 'ka-chunk' of me changing the channel right as they are walking into the room.

No one said "not available online". Library providers differ in their rules for buyers. Buying something to keep in an online library service doesn't necessarily mean that you own it forever.

Try watching your favorite Bond film when it ends up unavailable on line due to some legal horseshite.
Not happening.

Sometimes and sometimes not.

Imagine “owning” a complete series only to find that your online library provider has removed problematic episodes. Or the film you bought is pulled for similar reasons.

Y'all are crazy
I own every movie in my private locally hosted Plex server free and clear until the end of time.
In fact it's the only way I've found rare classics and extended cuts of movies and TV series and lost episodes.
Anyone else have every episode of 6 million dollar man, Miami vice, Magnum pi, etc in glorious HD? How about everything Disney ever made? How about rare and out-of-political correctness movies and TV?
I can't imagine buying anything on plastic that gets put away in some closet somewhere that you'll never find when you want to watch it.
Everything I own from the gorgeous 4K blade runner and marvel movies to the entire bond collection and every 2019 LSU football game in 60fps eye popping clarity is available to watch anywhere anytime on any device forever.

I know where to look. they still aren't available.
Also, when I own the damn disc, it can't be removed from "the cloud" or the streaming service.

Yep. For instance if you own GWtW on BR-D,LD or DVD the studios can't edit your copy of because some group of SJW's decide it's racist.

Do you use an LTO or DLT tape drive for offsite backups?

They're not likely to carve them on stone tablets, either.
What of it?
What of it?
