One of the first things I noticed when diving into my world history readings is how many nations (long before the Nazis) had the eagle as their symbol. It's by far the most popular animal.
We have a few out here on the lake and besides the obvious beauty and strength of the bird the most amazing thing to me is how they can remain in one spot in the sky without flapping their wings. They just ride the breeze like a kite and adjust their position with the 'fingers' at the tip of each wing.
