As a St George voter, how would this affect the Sheriff's Dept?

Probably would hurt it somewhat if I had to guess. But it would be a guess because no one is pushing the tax and telling us what it’s for. It’s a renewal and they are taking it for granted that it will pass.
I think it passed easily, FWIW.

Operational expenses, including salaries, of the EBR Sheriff's Department.

It's a 10-year renewal of a tax that's been on the books for years. It's not a new, additional tax and it is parish wide.

Explanation of the tax renewal

Doesn't the sheriff's office only cover unincorporated areas though? We live right on the border of BR/STG but on the BR side.

The Sheriff has jurisdiction over the entire parish as the parish's chief law enforcement agency. Deputies can arrest anyone in the parish if they want to. The sheriff and the BRPD have an agreement where BRPD patrols the city.

The Sheriff's department is also responsible for operating the EBR Parish prison.

Agree these are the types of taxes that should be supported. Especially considering how badly tax revenue in EBR may be declining. Hell, they are already looking at a huge loss in tax revenue due to the covid shut down.
