What’s your thoughts on an IWC le petit prince or mark xviii? I’m in the market for a sub $5k watch and want something that doesn’t stand out too much, plain face and a date. Any other suggestions that fit those parameters?
The Petit Prince is a edition of multiple watches with a blue dial but you may be talking about the PP version of the Mark XVIII. I like the entire Mark series from IWC if you like the watch and get a good discount (10-15% on those currently) I would say it is a good buy.
That sort of criteria usually has me say 39mm Oyster Perpetual but with the price increase and the fact they are hard to find right now at ADs it won't fit your budget.
The Sinn 556 is an excellent watch for 1/3rd the price of the IWC. The Omega Railmaster is another to look at at a similar price to the IWC with proper discount and the Aqua Terra is one of those not very bold every day watches with lots of variations. Stowa has some excellent alternatives to the Mark XVIII at significantly lower prices.
In the end, the Mark XVIIIs are excellent every day watches since they are a reasonable size for most people and are highly legible. Some people will scoff at the IWC bang for the buck but if you like it and wear it for years even decades the price tends to become an afterthought. Of the modern Marks I like the triple date window on the Mark XVII, some people hate it but it is very practical when you are looking for the date at 15 minutes after the hour.

Thanks for the input, the PP version of the Mark is what I've been looking at. I'm willing to go over the price range I first mentioned and will look into those other suggestions, it just seems every other person has a rolex/omega whereas I rarely see someone with an IWC, and wanted to know if that was for a good reason or if it's just not as popular. On a different note, what are your thoughts on Ball watches?
